I was opportuned to visit Texas in the United States of America, barely two weeks into my visit came Hurricane Harvey, which left a lot of residents homeless, a couple of lives lost, thousands of cars destroyed, business houses, public facilities submerged. I can go on and on with the losses. The duration, strength and coverage went beyond the forecast, it took everyone by surprise. Authorities were confused, scientists’ predictions were conflicting, with due respect, they all did their best.
A woman at one of the shelters spoke to a local television channel saying “I prayed all manner of prayers”. Many that believe in God did pray, myself inclusive and God answered in mercy by putting an end to a non-stop 5 days rain.
Too many questions flooded the human mind; what went wrong? Is it climate change? How and who can stop it? At the same time, many states in African countries were experiencing floods too. On the other hand, fire had engulfed a huge part of California and lately Australia that beats all human imaginations amongst other natural disasters.
The Bible in Ps 24: 1-2 says: “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods”.
This makes it clear that the hand of the immortal, invisible, the only wise God who founded the heavens and the earth is behind these phenomenal occurrences. He alone made all things visible and invisible and He is in total control of all His wonderful works. If He wanted, the rains could continue for 10 more days to overrun the whole of the U.S.A or even the world, and no human or power could have been able to stop Him but for His mercy!
It is therefore important to surrender our lives to this Almighty God who has power to do and undo so that he can secure us. Isa 43:2 “when thou pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walk through the fire, thou shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee”.
Wow! Isn’t this amazing? This word is for the children of God who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. Why not give God a chance to secure you from calamities from today by surrendering your life to him now? It is a personal life decision with everlasting reward.
